hyperref and url in Scissor LaTeX
The hyperref and url packages mostly work in Scissor LaTeX: \href, \url, \hyperref[label]{text}, \autoref and \nameref work, while \hypersetup options such as link colours and PDF metadata are ignored and \nolinkurl is unknown.
What the packages do
hyperref turns references, citations and URLs into clickable links in the PDF and adds commands for links: \href{url}{text}, \url{...}, \hyperref[label]{text} and \autoref{label}, which prints the kind of thing and its number ("Section 2"). \hypersetup{...} sets link colours and PDF properties. The url package alone provides \url.
What works here
| Command | In Scissor LaTeX | Notes |
|---|---|---|
\href{url}{text} | Works | Also mailto: addresses. |
\url{...} | Works | Characters such as _ need no escaping. The address is set in the text font, not in a monospaced font. |
\hyperref[label]{text} | Works | Prints the text. |
\autoref{label} | Works | "Section 1", "Figure 2" and so on. |
\nameref{label} | Partly | Prints the number, not the title of the section. |
\pageref{label} | Works | |
\hypersetup{...}, package options | Left out | Link colours, borders and PDF metadata are not applied. |
\nolinkurl{...} | Not supported | Skipped with a Problems note; the text is kept. |
Examples
Links to the web, to an e-mail address and to a section, and \autoref:
\href, \url, \hyperref and \autoref
\section{Results}\label{sec:results}
The data is on \href{https://example.com/data}{the project page},
and the raw files are at \url{https://example.com/raw_data/v44}.
Write to \href{mailto:erika@example.com}{Erika Mustermann}.
See \hyperref[sec:results]{the results} or \autoref{sec:results}.\autoref for figures and tables, and \nameref, which prints a number here:
\autoref and \nameref
\section{Method}\label{sec:method}
\begin{table}[h]
\centering
\begin{tabular}{lr} Erika & 44 \\ John & 38 \\ \end{tabular}
\caption{Scores.}\label{tab:scores}
\end{table}
\autoref{tab:scores} lists the scores; \nameref{sec:method}
describes how they were measured.\hypersetup is accepted, but colours are not applied:
\hypersetup is ignored
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\hypersetup{colorlinks=true, urlcolor=blue, linkcolor=red}
\begin{document}
A link to \href{https://example.com}{example.com} in plain black.
\end{document}Compatibility
- From a TeX installation to here: links and references work. Link colours and PDF properties from
\hypersetupare not applied, and\namerefgives a number instead of a title. - From here to a TeX installation: documents compile there unchanged. Load
hyperreflast among your packages, as usual.

Questions and answers
Are links clickable in the exported PDF?
Links from \href and \url point to their addresses, and \ref, \autoref and \hyperref jump to their targets in the PDF.
Why are my links not coloured?
\hypersetup and the colour options of hyperref are ignored, so links look like the surrounding text. That keeps the PDF ready for print.
