NeurIPS 2026 LaTeX template (neurips_2026.sty)
NeurIPS papers use the neurips_2026.sty style file from the call for papers at neurips.cc. Scissor LaTeX has a free look-alike for drafting in your browser, with no account: start from the NeurIPS template, or load \usepackage{neurips_2026} in an article, anonymous with line numbers by default, with the authors in preprint or final mode. The same .tex compiles with the official style file.

The template
The NeurIPS template is an optimisation paper about step sizes under heavy-tailed noise, with three authors, a training-loss chart on a log scale, a booktabs table of accuracies, an acknowledgements section and author-year citations. Open the NeurIPS template in the editor to see all of it. It starts in preprint mode, with the authors shown.
Turning it on
The kit is a package on a plain article:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{neurips_2026}The year is read from the package name, so neurips_2025 or neurips_2027 work too and the notice shows that year. The older name nips_2019 and so on is recognised as well. The page is always Letter, one column with 1.5 inch side margins, set in TeX Gyre Termes (a free Times substitute, downloaded the first time).
Modes
| Line | Mode | Authors | Line numbers | Notice at the foot of page 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
\usepackage{neurips_2026} | submission | "Anonymous Author(s)" | yes | "Submitted to ... Do not distribute." |
\usepackage[preprint]{neurips_2026} | preprint | shown | no | "Preprint." |
\usepackage[main, final]{neurips_2026} | camera-ready | shown | no | the conference name |
\usepackage[nonanonymous]{neurips_2026} | submission with names | shown | yes | "Submitted to ..." |
The first page has no page number; the following pages have one, centred, in every mode.
The default: an anonymous submission with line numbers
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{neurips_2026}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\title{Adaptive Step Sizes under Heavy-Tailed Noise}
\author{Erika Mustermann \\ Example University \\ \texttt{erika@example.org}
\And

\begin{document}
\maketitle
\begin{abstract}
We propose a step-size rule for stochastic gradient descent that stays stable when the
gradient noise has heavy tails, and test it with 44 random seeds.
\end{abstract}
\section{Introduction}
A fixed step size $\eta$ is either too cautious early in training or unstable later.
We adapt $\eta_t$ to a running estimate of the noise scale.

Kit commands
| Command | What it does | In Scissor LaTeX |
|---|---|---|
\And, \AND | the next author on the same row, or on a new row | Work |
\thanks{..} | a footnote on a name | Works (hidden when anonymous) |
ack environment | "Acknowledgments and Disclosure of Funding" | Works; hidden in submission mode, as in the kit |
\answerYes{}, \answerNo{}, \answerNA{}, \answerTODO{} | answers in the paper checklist | Work: coloured "[Yes]", "[No]", "[NA]", "[TODO]" |
track options main, position, eandd, creativeai, education, sglblindworkshop, dblblindworkshop | the track of a final paper | Accepted; creativeai, education and sglblindworkshop show the authors, as in the kit |
nonatbib | do not load natbib | Accepted |
Bibliography
NeurIPS allows any consistent citation style; the template uses \bibliographystyle{plainnat}, which Scissor LaTeX sets as author-year citations, with \citet and \citep from natbib. See bibliographies.
What differs from neurips_2026.sty
To submit, get neurips_2026.sty from the call for papers at neurips.cc and put it next to your .tex file; it compiles unchanged. See conference look-alike templates for the other layouts.
Questions and answers
How do I show the author names in a NeurIPS paper?
Use \usepackage[preprint]{neurips_2026} for an arXiv version, or \usepackage[main, final]{neurips_2026} for the camera-ready paper. Without an option the paper is anonymous.
Why is my acknowledgements section missing?
The ack environment is hidden in the submission version, so reviewers do not see who funded the work. It appears in preprint and final mode.
Can I write the paper checklist here?
Yes. The answer commands \answerYes{}, \answerNo{} and \answerNA{} work, so you can paste the checklist from the official kit into your document.
