What is the Scissor LaTeX editor?

Scissor LaTeX is a free LaTeX editor that runs in your browser. You write LaTeX and real typeset pages appear beside it as you type, with no compile button and no server. It is made for students and researchers, needs no account, and keeps your files on your device or in your own Google Drive.

What it does

AI that runs on your device AI

The editor's optional AI rephrases, shortens and fixes the grammar of your text, translates a selection into English, German or Spanish, explains typesetting problems with a fix, and creates equations, tables, charts, diagrams, sections, abstracts and BibTeX entries. Every result is checked with the engines that typeset your document, and nothing changes until you accept it.

It needs a browser with WebGPU (Chrome or Edge, Safari 26 or later, or Firefox on Windows or an Apple Silicon Mac) and 2 to 3 GB of graphics memory, depending on the model. iPhone and iPad run the smallest model. The editor checks your device before any download.

Who it is for

Students writing homework, lab reports and a thesis, and researchers drafting papers, who want to see the pages while they write, without an account or an upload to our servers. If you write with co-authors at the same time, or need every TeX package, a cloud service such as Overleaf suits you better. How Scissor LaTeX compares with Overleaf

Where your files are

Projects are stored in your browser on this device. The typesetter runs in your browser tab, so your text is never sent to a server of ours. When you save to Google Drive, your browser talks to Google directly, and Scissor LaTeX can see only the files it created or you opened with it. How it works

What it does not do

Scissor LaTeX lays out pages with its own engine built on Typst, not with TeX. It covers the LaTeX that papers, reports and theses usually use, but not every package or document class, and it has no real-time co-editing.
