Who makes it

Scissor LaTeX is part of the Scissor family of tools that run in the browser, alongside Scissor, Scissor PDF, Scissor Image, Scissor Text, Scissor Zip, Scissor Audio and Scissor Film. The legal provider is named in the imprint. To reach us, use the contact page.

How privacy works

The website and its engines are downloaded to your browser, and your work is processed there, on your own device. The site has no endpoint for your documents. Projects are kept in your browser's storage until you delete them, or in your own Google Drive if you save them there; Scissor LaTeX can then see only the files it created or you opened with it.

What does reach us: page counts and short error reports without your work, and whatever you choose to send through a feedback, bug-report or contact form. The details are on how it works and in the privacy policy.

What it does not do

Scissor LaTeX is not TeX. It covers the LaTeX that papers, reports and theses usually use, but not every package or document class. It has no real-time co-editing, no tracked changes and no journal templates yet. For those, see the alternatives and the differences from a TeX installation.

Logo and screenshots

You may use the name, the logo and these screenshots to write about Scissor LaTeX or to list it in a directory. Please do not change the logo, do not use it as the logo of your own product or site, and do not suggest that we endorse or sponsor you. The name and logo stay ours; this permission gives no other rights. The screenshots show the editor with a sample document written by us, with made-up data; the Drive button shows the Google Drive icon, a trademark of Google LLC.

Questions and answers

Is Scissor LaTeX open source?

No. Scissor LaTeX is proprietary software that is free to use. It is built on open source components, such as Typst and mitex, which are listed with their licences on the licences page.

How is Scissor LaTeX free?

The typesetting runs on your own device, so we do not run a compile server for it. There is no paid plan.
